Shiatsu and You

Any of these sound familiar?

Back or shoulder problems

Whiplash-related injuries or neck pain, headaches

Stress, anxiety, lack of energy, insomnia

Menstrual pain, pre-menstrual problems

Digestive disorders

Think of the body's energy as being like a river - if the river gets blocked, it can't flow. It's the same with your energy. And in Shiatsu terms, energy that can't flow may lead  to chronic conditions such as whiplash, IBS and digestive problems, migraines and menstrual pain as well as mental health disorders such as insomnia, anxiety and depression.

At its most basic level, Shiatsu (meaning 'finger pressure') is a
traditional Japanese bodywork. Like Acupuncture, Shiatsu's roots are
based in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but instead of needles, Shiatsu
uses palm, finger and thumb pressure. By stimulating the body's internal
energy ('ki' or 'chi') and finding the imbalances, Shiatsu can help you
to feel better and more in control of your own health.

Shiatsu is a physical therapy that supports and strengthens the body’s
natural ability to heal and balance itself, working on all levels - physical, psychological and emotional.

Shiatsu works to harmonise the energy flow through the mind and body. It can
therefore have a powerful effect on conditions such as anxiety, sleep
problems or lack of energy,

Shiatsu is not part of a religious practice.  It does have spiritual elements, but these will not encroach on your belief system (or lack of).

Shiatsu is a very practical therapy and is complementary to mainstream Western medicine,
Your treatment will incorporate a variety of techniques specific to
you.  These might include gentle holding and, if appropriate, more
dynamic rotations and stretches.

Shiatsu can be also used safely and effectively in pregnancy, working with the body's energy in an extremely positive and pro-active way and can also be used during labour  to work with the body's energy in order to move through each stage.
