Your session

Your session will last about an hour, including consultation time.  The first session will be slightly longer, so that I can take a detailed case history in order to develop a more complete picture of you and your health.  All information is strictly confidential.

The treatment usually takes place on a futon on the floor.  You will remain fully clothed during your Shiatsu, so do wear something loose and comfortable.  If you find lying on the floor difficult - if, for example, you are pregnant or have a physical condition such as osteoarthritis - I will be able to treat you in a sitting position on my specially designed chair.

It is preferable not to arrive for a treatment immediately after a heavy meal - a light snack is fine.

It is best not to receive a treatment whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs, if you have a fever or after receiving vaccinations/immunisation.  If you are feeling unusually unwell for any reason, it is always best to ring and let me know, as it might be more appropriate and/or beneficial to postpone.

After your treatment, try and drink plenty of water and allow yourself a little time to assimilate the effects.  It is common to experience what is sometimes known as a 'healing crisis'.  If you are concerned about any of your symptoms, please do not hesitate to contact  me and I will talk them through with you.

Shiatsu aims to affect every level of being; physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual and each session is tailored specifically for you and may include advice or recommendations on diet, exercise or lifestyle to encourage greater understanding and independence in health matters. You will never get the same treatment twice - after all, you never feel exactly the same every day - but it will always be a sensitive, intuitive one, working with you in the here and now.
